Playing this game again after some time


Some days ago, I played KNOSSOS again with my new coworkers and we had loads of fun. I made this game especially for venues and parties, as a true multiplayer game and it generates engagement from the other players staring at the same screen, instead of being online. Ofc in covid times its very hard to get a get-together and play safely.

That said, it was nice to have the opportunity to play it in a bigger group again and see that it still works and is fun. But there are also some problems: 

  • I didnt want to use much ui or text, which leaves the players to figure out the controls mostly for themselves. There is a mosaic on the ground in the hub world which shows the basics, but things like controlling where you respawn, throw a weapon or drop a powerup are never explained
  • Players qickly figure out how to swing their sword and immediately start fights with each other in the hubworld, which leads to the hilarious situation of everyone fighting each other like in Asterix & Obelix without anyone dying and not paying attention to how to choose a gamemode. I take this as a win, but also everyone wonders why nobody dies and how to win. But there is nothing to win in the hubworld XD
  • there are still some particle system bugs, which I cannot resolve without a rewrite in a different gamemaker version and I wouldnt want to do that, as well as some minor audio and visual bugs, but nothing game breaking

If you can, do play it and post some pictures of you having fun - this would make my day. Seeing the fun ppl have with it whenever I showed it off somewhere was always gratifying :) play safe!
